The Reworld I-95 Energy Resource Recovery Facility is one of the largest waste-to-energy facilities in the country and has been in operation since 1990. Municipal solid waste (MSW) serves as the fuel for the facility- generating approximately 670 kilowatts of electricity per ton of waste. They also recycle ferrous and non-ferrous metals and use reclaimed water for the cooling towers.

The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services I-95 Landfill Complex mulching and grinding area manages vegetative waste collected by the Department and other sources. The site features a new Dobbstat shredder. The site also features a grasslands project area and large no-mow bird grassland habitat on the former landfill cover. The facility is the planned location of a 5 MW solar field anticipated to be built in 2025.
